Macaulay Road and Area population – 2021 Census

By Catherine Davidson on October 28, 2022January 15, 2024

UPDATE: BC Stats recently provided MRANA with an updated population count based on the July 2021 census information. The revised population count is now at 1,530 ( estimated on July 1, 2021).

MRANA asked BC Stats for an updated population count for our area and was provided with the following information:

According to the 2021 Census data, the population of Macaulay Road Area is 1,520 people. This data is preliminary since the Census 2021 numbers will be updated in September 2023 to correct for under coverage (those that didn’t complete the 2021 census form). This population number reflects the area within the road boundaries of Hamm Road, Highway 19A, Highway 19 and the Oyster River.

For perspective – other small towns and villages reported population counts as follows:

Sayward 334
Gold River 1,246
Crofton 1,446
Ucluelet 1,940
Tofino 2,217
Port McNeill 2,356

The total population of Area C (Comox Valley Regional District) was reported as 9,158. Macaulay Road and Area’s population (Hamm Road, Highway 19A and the Oyster River) can be considered as 16.5% of the total population of Area C.
